Creating Gourd Art

Student will choose a gourd from many sizes and shapes and I will guide you to design your own creation

Karen Currier has been working and designing gourd art for over 20 years and has learned many methods over the years . She dyes, carves, burns, and adds embellishments to her works.

Kath’s Krazy Kats

Using acrylic inks, create crazy, colorful and whimsical cats (or dogs or…). You will go home with one or two small framed paintings! Teens welcome with an accompanying adult.

Kathie Rogers says: Once I discovered how crazy and colorful acrylic inks are, I couldn’t stop. I made and sold a number for The Cat’s Meow fundraiser and sold them all.

Creative Writing: Poetry

Robert Frost said, “the ear is the only true writer and the only true reader.” In this generative poetry class you will learn to write poems and read poems with your ear.

Soda Can Earrings

Choose from a variety of styles and create one or two pairs of lightweight earrings in your favorite colors (or your favorite soda).

Gabriele Teich is an engineer by trade and an artist by choice. Mostly print making, but dabbling in a wide variety of mediums, always curious about something new.

Decorative tile painting

Explore tile decorating with stencils, paint and decals. Participants will be able to make two tiles in which they can decorate with materials and use techniques provided. The tiles will be fired in a kiln to finish them.

Linda Sanchez received an M.A. in Ceramic Art at NMSU. She has won numerous awards for her work and now has a gallery and studio at Duende Arte.

Landscape Drawing

In the workshop you will practice textures, control, and stability in using ink pens of different thicknesses. Then, you will create a complete landscape drawing with the pens.

Aliza Ashkenazi is a visiting artist from Israel. She graciously offered to teach a class, making our group an international one. Her expertise ranges from drawing to webdesign and art installations.

Polymer Clay Coasters

You will make 2 coasters out of polymer clay, bamboo wood base and resin sealed. I will have different designs to choose from, so the time it takes will depend on the design you choose.

Intro to Photogravure

In this 4 hour class you will turn your favorite photograph into a limited edition print. At the end of the workshop you will take home 4-6 prints. All supplies included.

Diane Alire has a Masters Degree in photography and has taught photogravure workshops for over 20 years.

Felting

Learn to felt a nuno-felted scarf using soft merino wool and silk. Price of the course will depend on the size of the scarf you choose. Shown in the image is the larger scarf.

Intro to Glass fusing

Learn the basics of fusing glass in a kiln to create beautiful art pieces. You will learn the unique properties of glass, the different types of fusing, and how to cut, break and arrange pieces of glass into a beautiful piece of art.

Cindy Tooke-Dexter says: In 2013 I fell in love with glass fusing and it’s creative potential. It has been my hobby since that time.

Light Up Your HeART’s Fire!

Slip into a rhythm of compassion and delight through a fiery introduction to yoga’s heart chakra. The yoga practice will lead you to design your own paisley pattern with symbols and colors reminiscent of ancient stories and roots, then to create together a mural full of fire and light.

Bring yoga mats, blocks, straps if you have.

Beth LeBlanc , 200hr RYT, teaches at Downtown Yoga in Las Cruces and is certified in 12 areas of practice.
Margaret Bernstein writes, makes and teaches art in Las Cruces.
